Pastel is a deceptively simple medium, rich in flexibility but very easy to turn into mud. Three accomplished artists each present an original take on the medium, with Schneider featuring a mostly realist approach; Marla Baggetta, impressionistic and abstract methods; and Nathan Rohlander, oil pastel. All offer useful vignette images of details within each project. This is a comprehensive guide for beginners. More advanced students may prefer Alan Flattmann's The Art of Pastel Painting.
