Our Gorgeous Baby

This charmingly funny board book celebrates a family's unconditional love for their slurpy, burpy, boisterous new baby.
Baby's eyes are not brighter than the sun. And she isn't as light as a feather—she weighs a ton! Less princess than clown, with a voice a little more screechy than angelic, this baby may keep their family up at night, but no one could love baby more. With lyrical humor, Smriti Prasadam-Halls and Eve Coy reflect the routine chaos a new baby brings, showing that even the noisiest, smelliest, and messiest of babies poses no challenge to the bonds of affection that smitten families—older siblings included!—have with their gorgeous babies.

Toddler-PreS-Gorgeous, with the brightest eyes, a new baby has won over just about everyone she meets. But she is not fooling her older sibling! To others she may seem like an angel, but they don't see her shout and screech, or slurp and burp. And they aren't there when she keeps them up at night. But even though she can make things noisy, messy, and smelly, her family loves their baby more than anything. This charming and humorous board book captures the mixed emotions of an older sibling as they adjust to a new baby sister. The book's playful rhyming text conveys the sibling's perspective and creates a gentle page turning effect. Cheerful illustrations are filled with delightful details for young readers to explore, enhancing the story's humor and warmth. The layout is well designed, with a large, clear font and plenty of white space, ensuring the book is visually accessible for little ones. Striking an excellent balance between warmth, humor, and realism, this board book could make for a special story time between caregiver and child. VERDICT A solid purchase for board book collections.-Louie Lauer.
