Toddler-PreS-This new series features three friends-Glub-Glub, a fish; Clyde, a dog; and Bink, a bird-who learn different lessons about life. Calling itself "a little moral story," each book focuses on a specific issue. For example, in Rainy Day, readers discover that Glub-Glub does not like the rain. His face conveys his feelings perfectly as he gets dressed in his yellow raincoat. Once he is outside, he runs into his friends playing in the rain and puddles. Glub-Glub realizes that maybe the rain isn't so bad after all as he joins them in the fun. Bright graphic illustrations allow for the tales to be told without referencing the text. A good choice for both storytimes and one-on-one sharing.

Preschool One morning, Glub-Glub, a blue mudskipper, looks out his bedroom window at the disheartening sight of rain. In fact, it made him worried about going outside. Over several wordless spreads, readers watch Glub-Glub suit upgaloshes, hat, slicker, umbrellaand step into the dreary, wet world. Nope: Glub-Glub did not like the rain. But then he catches sight of his friends Clyde and Bink, who are splashing around and having an amazing time. He hesitates only a moment longer before casting his rain gear aside and joining in the fun. In one of three board books kicking off the Happyland series, Yaccarino introduces a trio of friends named Bink, Clyde, and Glub-Glub. Awakening to a rainstorm, fishlike Glub-Glub—somewhat ironically—“did not like the rain. He worried about going outside.” But go outside he does, in an orange slicker and boots, and when he sees Bink and Clyde dancing in puddles, their happy enthusiasm proves infectious. Yaccarino makes smart use of his limited text—his wordless spreads say quite a bit about his characters’ feelings—and his clean, brightly colored cartooning and lightly delivered message will make readers want to spend more time with this trio.
